As per the National Blindness and Visual Impairment Survey India 2015-19, cataract was found to be the leading cause of blindness in people above 50 years. The survey also revealed that around 96.2 per cent cases of visual impairment and 93 per cent cases of blindness in this age group were avoidable. Another study emphasised on the need to spread awareness about children suffering from blindness due to cataract. Most of these children were found to be from remote areas with little access to medical facilities.

Understanding the urgency of the situation, we launched our ambitious project "Gift a Vision" with the aim of preventing vision loss and blindness prevalent in India due to lack of knowledge and negligence. To achieve this target, we have collaborated with various hospitals, and together we serve the marginalised community with best eye care treatments. Our efforts have saved thousands of people from general blindness and vision impairments.

Recently, DAF, in collaboration with Karuna Sindhu Charitable Hospital, conducted a free eye check-up camp in Delhi NCR. People from all age groups participated in the event in a large number. During vision screenings, our doctors detected cataract in many people and referred surgeries to some of them. The doctors also guided them on how to keep eyes healthy.

  • We cater to the need of the marginalised groups as they have very limited access to primary health care facilities in remote areas and create awareness among these people about the importance of regular health check-ups.
  • Through our project, more than 200 people have received treatments for cataract and squint eye issues.
  • Over 300 patients have undergone cornea transplant and Lasik operation.
  • We regularly conduct free eye check-up camps to raise awareness about cataract and general blindness along with basic eye care.
  • Thousands of people have been able to retain their eyesight because of these initiatives.
  • Considering the limited health care facilities in our country, we are also working towards setting up vision centres all over India.
